Applications for Agricultural Use

The Scaling Solar Applications for Agricultural Use (SSAAU) program by ISA is revolutionizing rural communities with decentralized solar solutions. We focus on Solar Powered Irrigation Systems, Agrivoltaics, Solar Drying, Solar Home/Street Lighting Systems, Solar Chilling, and other off-grid applications that can transform rural living.

Our Approach

Our success is built on a unique methodology that sets us apart from common agricultural and rural needs assessments. We have a network of technological partners dedicated to finding tailored solutions for rural communities. Our streamlined tendering, documentation, and procurement processes ensure efficiency in every step of the project. We're constantly exploring innovations to enhance our decentralized solar applications and developing common standards for testing, monitoring, and certification.

Latest Achievements /Updates

SSAAU has gathered an aggregate demand of 2,76,277 Solar Water Pumps (SWPs) from 24 ISA Member Countries. We've received expressions of interest from Member Countries regarding the installation of Solar Powered Irrigation Systems, and consultants have been engaged to carry out the feasibility studies in five countries - Niger, Ethiopia, Cuba, Fiji, and Comoros. The studies will identify the feasible project sites and create pipeline of feasible projects. Demonstration projects on solar water pumping systems and solar cold storage systems have been completed in Togo, Jamaica, Seychelles, Tonga, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Cuba, Senegal, Gambia, Bhutan. Under UN office of South-South Cooperation, USD 2 million have been approved and Implementation of pilot Solar Water Pumping (SWP) projects in 10 countries started, with UNDP as the implementation partner. We've collaborated with IWMI for solar energy projects and programs.

Training, Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing

We believe in empowering our stakeholders. That's why we offer accessible training courses and e-learning for those involved in our projects. We've developed and shared e-handbooks on SWPs and SHLs with countries for knowledge dissemination. So far, 1082 individuals from more than 50 countries have been trained under the SSAAU program. Webinar on Agrivoltaics attracted 150 participants from 58 countries creating interest in the new solar applications.

Success Stories

We're proud to share our success stories. Projects on solar water pumping and solar cold storage in Togo, Jamaica, Seychelles, Tonga, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Cuba, Senegal, Gambia, Bhutan have been successfully completed, with ongoing work in other countries.
